SUMMARY:
The Event Staff Assistant works directly with the Interpreter and Ranger teams to support educational programming, visitor services, and daily park operations. This position assists with events, helps deliver interpretive activities, and supports day ranger duties to ensure a safe, educational, and positive visitor experience.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at parks, events, and community facilities. Some evenings, weekends, and special events may be required.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Interpreter with educational talks, cultural demonstrations, and guided tours.
- Help prepare and set up interpretive materials, displays, and learning stations.
- Provide basic visitor information on natural resources, wildlife, cultural history, and regulations.
- Support youth engagement and hands-on educational activities.
- Assist with documentation of attendance, program feedback, and visitor questions.
- Work alongside Day Rangers to patrol park areas and support visitor safety and rule compliance.
- Provide a friendly presence to deter unsafe activity and assist visitors.
- Report hazards, maintenance needs, and visitor concerns to Ranger leadership.
- Assist with light maintenance tasks such as trash collection, trail checks, and facility upkeep.
- Support wildlife observations and daily activity reporting.
- Assist with setup, operation, and takedown of Tribal and community events.
- Support traffic flow, visitor check-in, booths, and customer service.
- Maintain event and park spaces for cleanliness and safety.
- Coordinate closely with Rangers and Interpreters during events.
- Perform any other duties as assigned or required by the Natural Resources Director, Lead Park Ranger, or program leadership.
- Other duties as assigned, related to the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have High School/GED.
- Valid driver’s license preferred; background check required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn about natural resources and interpretive practices.
- Ability to lift 25–40 lbs. and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Experience working with the public, youth programs, parks, or cultural education.
- Interest in Tribal natural resources and cultural preservation.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
