SUMMARY:
Juvenile prosecutors make decisions daily regarding case assessments/investigations, charging, plea bargaining, disposition/sentencing and overall legal strategy. The juvenile prosecutor will work closely with victims, witnesses and members of law enforcement. The juvenile tribal court prosecutor will play a critical role in our juvenile justice system, balancing the welfare of juveniles with the pursuit of justice and community safety.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Negotiate the just resolution of assigned cases and comply with Victims’ Rights
- Maintain professional relationships with victims, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, and members of the community
- Discuss and present the analysis of legal issues
- Present oral arguments in Tribal Court as needed; strong written and oral communication
- Compose memoranda and pleadings regarding legal issues of concern as needed in assigned cases
- Interview witnesses regarding facts as needed in the prosecution of each case
- Research and analyze legal issues using both computerized legal research and hard copy tools
- Cover court and other duties as assigned
- Comply with all rules regulating professional responsibility, including specific rules addressing the prosecutorial function
- Familiar with and understanding of Tribal Court procedures
- Familiar with and understanding of Tribal Codes related to juveniles
- Ensure court attendance, preparedness and professionalism
- Computer skills, including experience with industry standard e-mail, word processing and database software
- Organizational ability, flexibility, resourcefulness, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to form and maintain positive working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, participants and community stakeholders and employers
- Knowledge of community resources
- Time management and organizational skills, the ability to work on multiple tasks

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in education, social work, criminal justice, psychology or related human services, or 2-year degree with 5 years’ experience in related field.
- Muat have valid North Dakota driver’s license
- Two years’ experience working with at risk populations preferred
- Previous juvenile justice residential and/or detention experience preferred
- Previous tribal court juvenile division experience preferred
- Familiarity and experience with screening and assessment tools preferred
