Position Overview

• Assist with arraignments, Judge Trials, jury trials, selections, negotiations and pre-trials.
• Assist with all paperwork, including dispositions from the Tribal Court, and all other Legal entities pertaining to the office.
• Will use copy machines, computers and fax machines to help maintain confidentiality at all times on files, cases and information pertaining to office.
• Researches and analyzes law source such as statues, recorded judicial decisions, legal code and constitution.
• Prepares legal documents such as briefs, pleading appeals, contracts, motions, etc.
• Investigates facts and law of case to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly.
• Files pleading with court clerk.
• Delivers or directs delivery of subpoenas to witnesses and parties.
• Acts as law liaisons between disputing parties.
• Acts as law librarian, keeping and monitoring legal volumes and ensuring legal volumes are up-to-date.
• Must have had previous experience in the practice of law, court time representing clients.
• Other Job related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Compensation

$24.00 per hour

Qualifications

• Must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D
• Must have two years’ experience in evaluating criminal cases, performing duties in law office, representing criminal defenders.
• Must have valid Driver’s License and proof of Insurance.
• Must be willing to train on various computer software, Microsoft Word, Outlook Access, and Excel, etc.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
• Must be willing to work with general public.
• Must be able to deal and handle all levels of job related stress.
• Must be able to attain a Legal License to assist with Legal issues as assigned.
• Must attend all meetings, training workshops required and desired by the Public Defender.
• Must have previous experience representing clients in adult criminal court and in juvenile court.
• Must be able and willing to do legal research and disposition

The intent of this policy is to promote and bring deserved services and benefits to our veterans for the personal sacrifices they have made. To be considered for a preferential treatment under this policy, candidate(s) must submit copies of verification documents to Personnel Office along with the employment application for eligibility determination purposes. An acceptable verification document is the discharge of transfer report form DD214.
