SUMMARY:
The Education/Disabilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the education, development, and disabilities services provided to children and families within the Head Start and Early Head Staff programs in Belcourt, Dunseith, and St. John. This position ensures that services align with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting best practices in early childhood education and supporting children with disabilities. The Manager will also provide leadership and support to staff, collaborate with families, and develop strategies for continuous improvement of educational services, Travel between program sites will be necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Education Services Management:
- Develop, implement, and monitor educational programs that meet the developmental and educational needs of children, in alignment with the Head Start Performance Standards.
- Ensure curriculum delive1Y that is inclusive, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate.
- Supervise and support education staff, including teachers, assistant teachers, and other personnel.
- Collaborate with staff to develop and implement individual educational plans (IEPs) for children with special needs.
- Conduct classroom observations to ensure high-quality instructional practices and provide feedback for improvement. ( weekly observations)
- In classroom mentoring and modeling.
Disabilities Services Oversight:
- Lead efforts in identifying children with disabilities and ensure appropriate referrals to early intervention services.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of all disability-related documentation, including developmental screenings, assessments, and IEPs.
- Collaborate with external agencies, specialists, and families to ensure children with disabilities receive the appropriate support and services.
- Provide training to staff on working with children with disabilities, inclusive teaching strategies, and modifying classroom environments to accommodate children’s needs.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Head Start regulations, including those related to education and disabilities services.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education and early childhood education.
- Prepare and submit required reports related to children’s educational progress, disabilities services, and program outcomes.
- Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation of the program’s effectiveness and quality.
- Enter all relevant information into Child-Plus/PIR and teaching Strategies Gold.
Family Engagement and Support:
- Foster strong relationships with families to ensure they are actively engaged in their children’s education and development.
- Provide guidance and support to families of children with disabilities, helping them navigate the services available to their children.
- Coordinate workshops, resources, and community partnerships to enhance family understanding and involvement in the educational process.
- Work closely with Family Service Workers.
Professional Development and Team Collaboration:
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in early childhood education and special education.
- Work closely with other program managers and staff to ensure integration of services and a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of all children.
- Provide mentoring and training opportunities for teaching staff on child development, disabilities services, and inclusive practices.
- Strong knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, early childhood development, and special education law (IDEA, ADA).
- Ability to lead and supervise a team of educators, support staff, and specialists.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and early childhood assessment tools.
- Cultural competency and understanding of diverse family structures and backgrounds.
- Hold regular Classroom staff meetings.
- All other duties assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Social Work, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferred).
- Experience working in early childhood education, including experience with children with disabilities.
- Experience in a management or leadership role, preferably in a Head Staff or Early Head Start setting.
Certifications:
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or other relevant early childhood certification preferred.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe).
- CLASS certification or willingness to obtain it.
Physical Demands:
The ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
Frequent walking, bending, and occasional use of stairs.
